Game Summaries

Ann Arbor Pioneer November 21, 2007 W 3-0
line
In our traditional Thanksgiving Eve game we picked up our first victory of the season. We scored an early goal in the first period and then gave ourselves insurance with two goals in the last six minutes of the third period. We played well in our own end and goaltender, Mark Lauzon earned our first shutout in over a year. We lacked intensity at times and lost many battles for the puck. We will need to play better on Friday against Clarkston.

Clarkston Cranbrook Invitational L 4-1
line
Our intensity was much better as was our passing. While taking a real advantage in shots, we did not create good scoring opportunities. Clarkston did and had a 3-0 lead going to the third period. We played our best period in the third out shooting them 14-3 and came up with a short handed goal that was countered by their empty net goal. We need to adjust our play in the offensive end to create better scoring chances. We also need to have better command of our defensive end.

University of Detroit Jesuit Cranbrook Invitational W 5-0
line
We put it all together in this one and earn our second shutout of the season (Lauzon). We had another clear advantage in shots taken but created good scoring chances. We scored two shorthanded goals in 5 seconds in the third period. Dettrick Pierzinski scored the hat trick. We begin KVC League play next week with games against South Lyon and Hartland.

South Lyon November 28, 2007 W 5-1
line
We came out with lots of jump in this game. While we only scored once in the first period, we set a great pace and good positional game. We scored two more in the second period and another in the third before South Lyon scored. This broke Lauzon’s shutout streak at over 131 minutes. We scored the final goal to make it 5-1 and capture our first KVC win of the season. We got goal scoring from 5 different players.

Hartland November 30, 2007 W 8-3
line
This is a big match up on the road against a Hartland team that is 2-0 in conference play. We get off to a great start scoring 2 unanswered goals in the first period. Hartland doesn't quit and we open the door for them with 4 penalties in the second period. They win the period 2-1 and we come out in the third with a 3-2 lead. They score early to make it 3-3 but follow the tying goal with a penalty. We take a 4-3 lead on a power play goal and never look back scoring 4 more goals to win 8-3. Five of our 8 goals were scored on special teams, 3 power play and 2 shorthanded. The win puts us alone on top of the KVC at 2-0-0.

Novi December 12, 2007 W 6-2
line
We play a great first period in our first Home game at KVIH. We skate to a 3-0 lead. We took a step back in the second period and Novi won the battles early to get back into the game with two goals of their own. We scored two later in the period to take a 3 goal lead to the third period. Discussions between periods gave us new focus and we established our style of play again. This resulted in better time of possession and momentum. While we only scored an empty net goal in the third, we played much better. Novi was a tough opponent and will be a factor in the KVC race.
